The Department of Software of Automated Systems at Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding (NUOS) in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, is an academic unit within the Institute of Computer Science and Project Management. Established in 2003 following the division of the Department of Information Technologies, the department has a rich history dating back to 1987, when it was originally formed as the Department of Computing and Automated Control Systems.
Led by Full Professor Serhii Prykhodko, the department boasts a team of experienced educators and researchers. Modern laboratories equipped with up-to-date computing technology support both teaching and research activities.
The Department of Software of Automated Systems offers comprehensive educational programmes in Software Engineering (Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees) and Computer Science (PhD level). The curriculum encompasses a wide range of subjects, including programming fundamentals, object-oriented programming, software architecture, databases, computer networks, web development, and software quality assurance.
The department is actively engaged in research areas such as stochastic systems modelling, software metrics, applied systems analysis, and mathematical modelling in shipbuilding and technical systems. Faculty members have contributed to over 800 publications, including monographs and educational materials.
Industry Collaboration and International Partnerships
PZAS maintains strong collaborations with industry leaders like PrivatBank, GlobalLogic, GeeksForLess Inc., and QATestLab, providing students with internship opportunities and practical experience. Internationally, the department partners with institutions such as the University of Žilina in Slovakia, facilitating academic exchanges and joint research initiatives.
